當(dāng)垃圾管理遇上物聯(lián)網(wǎng)、區(qū)塊鏈

與人工智能,會(huì)碰撞出怎樣的綠色火花?


3月,來自尼泊爾、印度尼西亞和印度知名學(xué)府的14名優(yōu)秀本科生及研究生,齊聚寧波諾丁漢大學(xué),參與了一場以“創(chuàng)新可持續(xù)垃圾管理”為主題的國際青年人才交流項(xiàng)目。為期一個(gè)月的集中研修中,他們完成了從理論學(xué)習(xí)到實(shí)踐的全流程創(chuàng)新課程體驗(yàn),親身感受了寧諾先進(jìn)的教學(xué)理念與科研環(huán)境,共同描繪智慧城市的綠色未來。

讓課堂成為創(chuàng)新實(shí)驗(yàn)室

“可持續(xù)垃圾管理是當(dāng)下全球許多國家共同面臨的一大嚴(yán)峻挑戰(zhàn)!本次項(xiàng)目負(fù)責(zé)人、寧諾計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)系副教授Pushpendu表示,這正是此次項(xiàng)目的出發(fā)點(diǎn)。

不同于傳統(tǒng)的課堂講授,寧諾直接將教學(xué)場景轉(zhuǎn)化為創(chuàng)新實(shí)驗(yàn)室,讓來自計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)、人工智能、電子信息及軟件工程等不同專業(yè)背景的來華學(xué)生跨學(xué)科組隊(duì),運(yùn)用數(shù)字孿生、區(qū)塊鏈、AI等技術(shù),探索構(gòu)建更安全、透明、精準(zhǔn)、高效的智能垃圾管理系統(tǒng),以科技回應(yīng)現(xiàn)實(shí)需求。


項(xiàng)目初期,學(xué)生們在Pushpendu博士的引導(dǎo)下,迅速完成了對現(xiàn)有廢物管理系統(tǒng)的文獻(xiàn)調(diào)研與性能模擬比較,隨后投入解決方案的模型構(gòu)建與架構(gòu)分析。課程安排緊湊且循序漸進(jìn):從第一周的物聯(lián)網(wǎng)、區(qū)塊鏈及機(jī)器學(xué)習(xí)專題講座,到后續(xù)系統(tǒng)架構(gòu)設(shè)計(jì)、仿真模擬與結(jié)果分析,每個(gè)環(huán)節(jié)都緊扣實(shí)際應(yīng)用場景。

特別值得一提的是,考慮到項(xiàng)目時(shí)間有限,寧諾教學(xué)團(tuán)隊(duì)精心設(shè)計(jì)了“還原現(xiàn)實(shí)環(huán)境”的全模擬實(shí)施路徑,不僅降低了硬件實(shí)驗(yàn)的試錯(cuò)成本,也為學(xué)生們提供了在安全環(huán)境中大膽嘗試新技術(shù)的空間。

超越技術(shù)本身

在寧諾收獲廣闊的國際視野

對國際學(xué)生而言,這次項(xiàng)目的收獲遠(yuǎn)不止于專業(yè)技術(shù)的提升!霸谶@里學(xué)習(xí),我最大的收獲是一種解決現(xiàn)實(shí)問題的思維方式。這對我的學(xué)術(shù)發(fā)展幫助巨大!盡 harsh Kumar表示。

來自印尼的碩士Angelia對此也深有感觸,“整個(gè)項(xiàng)目不斷推動(dòng)我們拓寬視野。寧諾的導(dǎo)師們提供了許多獨(dú)特的視角與觀點(diǎn),讓我們學(xué)到了在原大學(xué)接觸不到的新內(nèi)容! Pushpendu博士深耕物聯(lián)網(wǎng)與人工智能領(lǐng)域,此次他聯(lián)合多位寧諾相關(guān)專業(yè)教師,共同為學(xué)生開展系統(tǒng)實(shí)操培訓(xùn)與前沿講座,保障項(xiàng)目兼具學(xué)術(shù)深度與實(shí)踐價(jià)值。


國際化的導(dǎo)師團(tuán)隊(duì)不僅營造了開放包容的學(xué)術(shù)氛圍,更在數(shù)據(jù)道德、隱私保護(hù)及實(shí)驗(yàn)安全等方面給予細(xì)致指導(dǎo),確保學(xué)生在探索尖端技術(shù)的同時(shí),堅(jiān)守學(xué)術(shù)誠信與社會(huì)責(zé)任感!皩幹Z的基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施也讓我印象深刻,無論是學(xué)習(xí)、科研還是興趣愛好,學(xué)生都能在校園里得到充分支持!盇ngelia提到。

經(jīng)過四周的高強(qiáng)度協(xié)作,14位國際學(xué)子成功構(gòu)建了一個(gè)高效、可靠且安全的自動(dòng)化廢物管理虛擬原型系統(tǒng),為未來城市環(huán)境治理提供了可擴(kuò)展的藍(lán)圖。

Addressing environmental challenges through technological innovation: UNNC leads international young talent in exploring a sustainable future

What happens when waste management meets the Internet of Things, blockchain and artificial intelligence? What kinds of green innovations emerge? In March this year, 14 outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students from leading universities in India, Indonesia, and Nepal gathered at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) for the China Exchange Programme for Young International Talent, themed "Innovative Sustainable Waste Management". During the intensive month-long programme, they undertook a complete research journey—from theoretical learning to practical innovation—experiencing first-hand UNNC's advanced teaching philosophy and research environment, while collectively envisioning a greener future for smart cities.

"The university overall strikes me as a top-notch research institution, which is very evident," commented M. Harsh Kumar, a postgraduate student from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, one of India's premier technological institutions.

Responding to real-world challenges: the classroom as an innovation laboratory

"Sustainable waste management is a major challenge currently faced by many countries around the world," said Dr Pushpendu Kar, Associate Professor in Computer Science at UNNC and Principal Investigator, explaining the programme's starting point. Moving beyond traditional classroom teaching, UNNC transformed the learning environment into an innovation laboratory. Students from diverse academic backgrounds—including Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electronic Information and Software Engineering—formed interdisciplinary teams. They applied technologies such as Internet of Things, Digital Twins, Blockchain, and AI to explore the development of safer, more transparent, accurate, and efficient intelligent waste management systems, using technology to address real-world needs.

In the initial phase, under Dr Pushpendu’s guidance, students quickly completed literature reviews and performance simulations comparing existing waste management systems. They then progressed to constructing solution models and analysing system architectures. The curriculum was both intensive and carefully structured: from specialised lectures on IoT, blockchain and machine learning in the first week, to subsequent stages of system architecture design, simulation and result analysis – each step closely aligned with practical application requirements.

Particularly noteworthy was the programmes’s innovative teaching approach. Given the time constraints and ambitious innovation goals, the UNNC teaching team meticulously designed a full simulation-based implementation pathway that replicated real-world environments. This approach not only reduced the costs associated with trial-and-error in hardware experiments but also provided students with a safe space to explore new technologies with confidence.

Beyond technology: broadening horizons at UNNC

For the international students, the benefits of the programme extended far beyond the enhancement of technical skills. "The biggest takeaway for me has been developing a way of thinking to solve real-world problems. Looking back over the past two weeks, I can see that my thinking has changed, which will guide me positively in my academic career," said M. Harsh Kumar.

Angelia, a Master's student from Indonesia, shared similar sentiments, "The entire programme has given me many new insights and unique perspectives, allowing me to learn things that are not available at my home university." Drawing on his expertise in IoT and AI, Dr Pushpendu collaborated with several UNNC faculty members from related disciplines to provide hands-on system training and cutting-edge lectures, ensuring the programme combined academic depth with practical relevance.

The international supervisory team fostered an open and inclusive academic environment while also offering careful guidance on data ethics, privacy protection and experimental safety. This ensured that, as students explored cutting-edge technologies, they remained committed to academic integrity and social responsibility. "UNNC's infrastructure is also impressive. Whether for study, research or hobbies, students can find excellent support on campus," Angelia added.

After four weeks of intensive collaboration, the 14 international students successfully developed a virtual prototype of an efficient, reliable and safe automated waste management system, offering a scalable blueprint for future urban environmental governance.
